Ram Revilla’s sister faked abduction: police

MANILA (4th Update, 6:57 p.m.) — Ramona Bautista, sister of former actor Ramgen “Ram” Revilla who was killed in his home last week, faked her abduction to cover up the crime, said the Parañaque City police Tuesday.
Ramona, who has been charged for being an accessory to the crime, initially said that she was abducted after two masked suspects broke into the Revillas’ home and shot her brother, Ram, at close range.
She failed to identify the suspects as they were wearing a “Halloween” type mask, though she was able to describe one as 5’7” tall, wearing a baggy pants and a jacket.
Ramona also said that she was dumped by the suspects near a mall along Alabang-Zapote Road in Las Pinas where she was found by a security guard and responding policemen in a state of shock.
Paranaque police chief Senior Superintendent Billy Beltran, however, believed that Ramona faked the abduction to cover up the crime.
He announced in a press conference Tuesday afternoon that Ramona and brother Ramon Joseph “RJ” Bautista have been formally accused with murder and frustrated murder for their brother’s death and the shooting of Ram’s girlfriend Janelle Manahan.
Also included in the charge sheet are Norwin de la Cruz, an alias Ryan and an alias Glyza, said Beltran, adding that the suspects were tagged by Ruel Puzon, who earlier surfaced and told police what he knew about the crime.
RJ and two other suspects — Michael Altea and Roy Francis Tolisora — are already in police custody, while Ramona is still at large.
The three suspects were taken to the Parañaque Prosecutors’ Office Tuesday afternoon, where the charges were heard by Assistant City Prosecutor Leah Roma despite Tuesday being a national holiday.
The police chief said RJ remains mum on his alleged role in the killing of his elder brother, although a police source said he hired Altea and Tolisora to kill his brother.
“He was given a lawyer immediately after he was taken into custody and was read his rights but he has not given any statement or confession,” Beltran said.
RJ, Ram and Ramona are the children of former senator Ramon Revilla Sr. with Genelyn Magsaysay.
With the development, Beltran said they have already ruled out robbery, politics, or a love triangle as motives in the killing.
“We are looking at personal motives in this case,” he said.
P1-million monthly allowance
Probers are looking into the alleged disagreement over a P1-million monthly allowance from their father as possible motive in Ram’s murder.
The amount was allegedly to be shared by the nine siblings and was purportedly being handled by the victim, the eldest.
Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., speaking for the Revilla clan, called the developments in the murder case shocking.
“This is a tragic death made even more tragic by the fact that a family member is being implicated,” he said.
The senator said, however, that the charges against RJ should be proven “beyond reasonable doubt,” adding statements implicating his half-brother must be validated and “not taken on face value alone.”
“We call on Task Force Ramgen to make sure that the result of the investigation must not lead to irreparable damage to the innocent, especially to their family members,” he added.
Task Force Ramgen is a police team formed to investigate the murder.
Beltran said Puzon’s statement matches information and evidence already gathered by police.
In his statement to the police, Puzon said Altea and Tolisora were his friends and that he was supposed to join them in killing Ram.
He added that the two were paid P200,000 for the hit.
RJ, according to Puzon, was the group’s contact in the victim’s household.
Earlier, Task Force Ramgen head, Chief Inspector Enrique Sy said the victim may have known his killers considering the ease they entered his residence.
Sy also pointed to testimony from the security guard of the subdivision where the crime was committed.
The guard said he did not notice any commotion or any suspicious people or vehicles on the night of the murder.
Ram was shot and stabbed to death inside his residence at BF Homes, Paranaque before midnight Friday. His girlfriend, Janelle Manahan was also attacked by the suspects but survived and is now recuperating at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Alabang, Muntinlupa.
Father rushed to hospital
Meanwhile, the victim’s father, former senator Ramon Revilla Sr., was rushed to the hospital Tuesday afternoon for a high fever, radio reports said.
Quoting Senator Ramon Revilla Jr., dzMM said the elder Revilla’s temperature and blood pressure shot up, prompting his family to bring him to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City.
The former senator and patriarch of the Revilla clan reportedly took the news that his son was shot and stabbed to death last week badly.
Doctor Cristina Macrohon, the family’s physician, told reporters that the elder Revilla is now in stable condition but will be under observation for the next few days. (AH/Jonathan de Santos/Sunnex)
