Remains of Pangasinan cop, wife flown to Surigao for burial
Friday, November 4, 2011
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The late Superintendent Lloyd Millan Sr. of Alaminos City was flown to Surigao del Norte by in-laws where he and his wife Cherryl will be buried.
Fellow police officers and friends of Millan remain distraught over his fate since even during his last day in Pangasinan, none of his immediately family visited his wake.
Millan, a soft-spoken police officer who worked well with his peers and men under his supervision, has not been known to have committed any wrongdoing at any of the places where he was assigned.
But underneath his simple smiles and soft voice lay grief over an alleged deeply-rooted family feud, which he didn’t even mention to his close friends.
A necrological service was held Thursday afternoon in Alaminos City. Among those who gave eulogies were mayors from the Bayambang, Bani, Mangaldan, Binmaley, and Alaminos City where he served as chief of police.
Before 7 p.m. Thursday, the remains of the couple were brought to the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office headquarters here. The caskets were placed at the parade ground grandstand where the policemen of Pangasinan paid their last respects.
At 12 midnight, the caskets were sealed and the couples’ long journey to Surigao del Norte started.
Cherryl’s elder brother Roberto Taripe said their flight to Surigao is scheduled at 12 p.m. Friday. The couple will be buried at Surigao Memorial Park.
Taripe was very thankful all the documents that needed to be processed and fixed were all done.
He also expressed their appreciation and thanks to all those who helped and extended assistance to the two children of the couple; to the City Government and the provincial police for attending to the remains and the wake of the couple.
Alaminos City Mayor Hernani Braganza said the city lost the police officer who could have been the city’s first police general.
Mangaldan Mayor Herminio Romero said served for two years in their town. He said Millan was an intelligent and good officer who also looks after the welfare of his men.
A double murder case has been filed against Lyndon Millan, elder brother of Lloyd and the only suspect in the merciless killing of the couple.
The motive behind the killing is said to be family feud.
Millan shot his brother at around 9 a.m. of Sunday. Initial investigation disclosed that Lloyd was then talking with Pandan barangay captain Ricardo Legaspi and two barangay councilmen when Lyndon arrived.
Without any provocation, the suspect allegedly cursed Millan then shot the policeman several times with the use of an M16 rifle. Cheryl tried to rescue his husband and cover him but she was also shot by the suspect.
Allegedly, Lyndon then drew his caliber .45 pistol and shot the victims again even though they were already sprawled on the floor.
Investigators recovered at the crime scene the caliber 9-millimeter Glock (service pistol of Supt. Millan), two magazines for said pistol loaded with 16 and 13 live ammo, respectively; seven empty shells of M16 rifle, one live ammo for M16, four empty shells of caliber .45, one live ammo for caliber .45, two empty shells of caliber 9mm, two deformed slug for caliber .45.
The suspect surrendered to Braganza and to Alaminos City Police Chief Rollie Saltat late afternoon Sunday. He is detained at the Alaminos City Police Station detention cell. (Liway C. Manantan-Yparraguirre/Sunnex)
