Kapampangan food firm wins international award

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Mekeni Food Corporation, a Kapampangan firm specializing in meat processing, has been recently conferred an international award in Geneva, Switzerland for the year 2012.
Mekeni President Prudencio S. Garcia announced the good news in a letter last Monday to businessman Levy P. Laus, chairman of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“We would like to share with you and our PamCham members the good news that once again Mekeni Food Corporation had scored another first in the Philippines’ food industry by being awarded the Century International Quality Era-Gold Award,” Garcia said.
With the award, Mekeni has joined the elite group of CQE awardees belonging to top corporations worldwide, mostly included in the list of Fortune 500, Fortune Global 500, recognized for their distinct achievements in the realm of quality culture, Garcia said.
As this developed, Laus has lauded Mekeni for receiving the international award, which he described as huge and rare feat for Mekeni considering the global standard in quality culture.
“As Kapampangans and as fellow businessmen, we at PamCham are equally proud and honored by the outstanding achievement that Mekeni has reaped internationally,” Laus said in a statement.
Laus said Mekeni serves as a model to all Kapampangan and Filipino businessmen in terms of product quality and corporate excellence.
The CQE award, according to Garcia, is carried out by Business Initiative Directions (BID), a private organization with networks worldwide whose primary activity is oriented towards sharing quality culture of leading companies worldwide.
The basis for selection and evaluation are the criteria of the principles of the QC 100 TQM, a quality model implemented in over 100 countries. The criteria include customer satisfaction, communication strategies, benchmarking, information and data analysis, leadership, planning and decision making, human resources, processes and production, financial outcome and business results, among others.
“The Gold Award is another testimony to Mekeni’s continuing achievement to the highest standards of food quality and safety,” Garcia said.
“The triumph of Mekeni is the triumph for the Philippines and our kabalen,” he said.
