Technical working group adopts ‘four highways’
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Pampanga Development Plan Technical Working Group (PDP-TWG) has adopted “four highways” that led to the grouping of cities and towns in the province according to their respective economic proficiencies.
National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) Regional Director Remigio Mercado, chairman of TWG-PDP, said the four highways include the Agri-Green Highway, Agro-Tourism Industrial Highway, Marine Highway, and Financial Services Highway.
These “four highways” were originally proposed by the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (PamCham), led by businessman Rene Romero, during the Wednesday meeting of the technical working group held at the Executive House of the Provincial Capitol.
Romero pointed out that the agri-green highway shall embrace training, marketing and technology transfer in propagation of high value crops like fruits, vegetables, rice and other grains in the towns of Mabalacat, Magalang, Arayat and Candaba.
The Agro-Tourism-Industrial Highway shall deal with the eco-tourism development and promotion of Porac and Floridablanca. This includes the conversion of the 10-kilometer radius next to the interchanges of the said towns into Peza-registered industrial zones.
The Marine Highway will entail the establishment of fish ports, seafood market, cold storage, and fish processing. Several towns were classified based on their types of water such brackish water (Guagua, Sasmuan, Sto. Tomas, Minalin, Masantol, Macabebe) and fresh water (Lubao, Apalit, San Simon, San Luis, Candaba).
For the Financial and Services Highway, Central Pampanga is seen to be the financial and services hub.
PamCham also proposed the following: bulk water project in Sapang Bato and Porac; expansion of the carriageway of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx), (Sta. Rita to Sta. Ines); provision of lights at the Sta. Rita to Sta. Ines segment; expansion of the access ramp in the City of San Fernando Interchange; provision of pedestrian pathways at the City of San Fernando-NLEx Bridge; widening and rehabilitation of MacArthur Highway from the City of San Fernando to Mabalacat; expansion of the Jose Abad Santos Avenue; construction of secondary roads linking the NLEx service road to the Megadike through MacArthur Highway; and parallel service roads for quarry trucks at the Megadike.
During the meeting, the TWG-PDP agreed to convert Paskuhan Village to the Pampanga Products Showcase that will feature Pampanga cuisine, furniture, processed meats, gifts, toys and house wares.
The Provincial Capitol likewise plans to develop the road to Mt. Pinatubo through Pasig-Potretro (Delta 5), as well as enhance Mayamit Falls in Porac town.
Other proposal for tourism include the development of Arayat National Park to feature cable cars, retreat houses, a road linking Mount Arayat to Magalang via the national Highway, resorts, retreat houses and trekking sites at the northern side of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, Porac and Floridablanca.
