Provincial awarding body to be ‘modified’
Thursday, December 16, 2010
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The nomination and selection processes of the controversial Most Outstanding Kapampangan Awards (MOKA) will be revisited, said Vice Governor Joseller Guiao.
Guiao, chairman of 2010’s MOKA committee, said the guidelines of the search and selection processes have to be “modified” to do away with “questionable” aspects.
Guiao’s disclosure came after the business sector, led by Rene Romero, questioned why no one from their category was recognized and chosen, despite four alleged qualified nominees.
The youth and sports sectors on Wednesday also aired the same sentiments, asking why no nominees where recognized in their fields despite the number of Kapampangans reaping honors locally and internationally.
“Actually, when the list of awardees was presented to me, I noticed that the business sector has no awardees but I didn’t ask about it because I don’t want to influence the board of judges. That’s their decision and it was final,” Guiao said.
“They (judges) compose an independent body and their decision was done independently. I and Governor [Lilia] Pineda had no hand on it. But definitely, the processes in the awards must be revised to suit standards accordingly,” Guiao said.
The MOKA committee’s job is to search for potential awardees aside from just screening nominations, said Guiao.
Guiao also said that the MOKA committee will not only depend on submitted nominations but will search for potential Kapampangans awardees as well. Jovi T. De Leon
