Guv reiterates call on proper waste control
Monday, December 20, 2010
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Lilia Pineda has urged religious groups and other sectors to actively participate in the Provincial Government’s environmental protection program, particularly in proper waste management.
Pineda said religious leaders have direct contact and strong influence on their flocks that are potential and effective drumbeaters of the environmental concerns.
The governor cited the importance of establishing material recovery facilities (MRFs) in various villages all over the province in line with the waste management program of the province.
Pineda also urged barangay chairmen in Lubao town to ensure involvement of all sectors in the community in the solid waste management efforts.
“Mahalaga ang magkaroon ng MRF sa bawat bayan bilang bahagi ng kabuuang plano ng probinsiya para sa solid waste management,” Pineda added.
She told local officials to include all stakeholders in the campaign to segregate waste, starting from households to business establishments and the whole community.
Pineda also assured local officials that the Provincial Government is exerting all efforts to help realize this goal.
She said “progress, jobs and investments should go hand in hand with environmental protection, creation of clean communities, and healthy population.”
Development, she added, should be approached by a holistic perspective and that all stakeholders should move towards one direction. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
