SEAIR starts Clark-Singapore flights via Pampanga airport

Monday, December 20, 2010

CLARK FREEPORT – The South East Asian Airlines (SEAIR) has commenced its regular Clark-Singapore flights last Friday, signaling the start of more international operations at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA).

“We at the Clark International Airport Corporation welcome this development because their first regional international flight to Singapore via the DMIA will be the start of the bigger operations of SEAIR,” Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) President and CEO Victor Jose Luciano said.

Luciano said SEAIR’s Singapore operations at DMIA will further boost the airport’s development as it serves more passengers, especially overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), which will be brought closer to their families through the said flight.

SEAIR began its daily flights last Friday between Clark and Singapore, and will increase the flights to twice daily tomorrow, December 21.

Officials of CIAC also held a cocktail party in honor of SEAIR at the Holiday Inn Clark on December 15, 6 p.m., attended by travel and tourism partners, businessmen, media and major airport and tourism stakeholders.

SEAIR President and CEO Avelino Zapanta, who spoke before guests during the affair, said SEAIR had leased two Airbus 319 aircraft, with a capacity of 144 seats, from its partner Tiger Airways of Singapore. Two more Airbus 319 aircraft are expected to be delivered by the first half of 2011.

President Benigno Aquino III last December 7 led the blessing of the Airbus A-319 at the SEAIR hangar at the Clark Civil Aviation Complex.

“Using the new 144-seater aircraft and with our projected 90 percent load factor for the Singapore flight, SEAIR projects monthly passenger traffic in Clark to increase by more than 60 percent,” Zapanta said.

Zapanta said SEAIR is also eyeing more international flights to Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea and Japan to increase their presence in the Southeast Asian Region by 2011.

The SEAIR executive said the airline will offer low-cost flights to its customers at DMIA and compete with other foreign and local budget carriers flying out of Clark.

Zapanta said internet flight bookings would be marketed through the website of Tiger Airways at www.tigerairways.com as well as SEAIR’s website at www.flyseair.com as part of their marketing arrangements.

“The resulting operational and cost efficiencies will ensure more low fares seats are available and contribute to the growth of SEAIR and the Clark gateway, benefiting customers in the Philippines and across the Asia Pacific Region,” Zapanta said.

“With this new collaboration with Tiger Airways, we will also be able to serve more international visitors to the Philippines by offering more destinations with great value, low fares. In addition, the introduction of these new jet services will create a welcome boost to the Philippine tourism industry and create more, high-caliber local jobs,” he stressed.

SEAIR is a pioneer locator and airline at the Clark Freeport Zone, having started operations in 1995. It is the second oldest airline in the country next to Philippine Airlines (PAL) and operates domestic flights such as to Boracay via the DMIA. Other destinations include Cebu and Davao, among others.

The Singapore-based Tiger Airways operates a fleet of 20 Airbus A-320s and has 38 destinations across 12 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific Region from four bases in Singapore and Australia. (Ria de Fiesta and Reynaldo G. Navales).
