Group warns public vs fake firecrackers

THE Philippine Pyrotechnics Manufacturers and Dealers Association Inc. (PPMDAI) on Wednesday urged the public to choose wisely in buying fireworks for the New Year celebrations.

The PPMDAI cautioned the public to select only fireworks marked with product standard label approved by the Department of Trade and Industry and carrying the PPMDAI logo.

Vimie Erese, PPMDAI president, also warned the public on the proliferation of cheap but sub-standard fireworks.

“Let us not buy cheap and fake fireworks. It is better to buy safe and quality standard firecrackers,” Erese said.

She encouraged buyers to go to stores accredited by the PPMDAI to be sure that the fireworks they buy are not sub-standard.

“We have good and quality kinds of fireworks. The products of our members have safety instructions and underwent through the test and assessment of the safety and quality standard committee of the PPMDAI, that’s why the products are guaranteed safe and not fake,” Celso Cruz, PPMDAI chairman emeritus, said.

Cruz added that their members have been constantly attending seminars on the production of safe and quality fireworks.

Most consumers patronize stores selling quality fireworks like the “ABS Paputok” in Barangay Biniang 1st in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Meanwhile, Bulacan police Director Fernando Villanueva said charges will be filed against fireworks shops selling banned and oversized firecrackers. (Press Release)
