Tons of garbage on Mabalacat side: village chief
February 1, 2011
ANGELES CITY — The chairman of Barangay Balibago said Monday that there is no open dumpsite in his village and the tons of garbage produced in the city can be found on the side of Barangay Duquit in Mabalacat town.
Barangay Balibago chairman Rodelio Mamac issued the statement amid reports that the city is one of the places in Pampanga warned by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Environmental Management Bureau for maintaining an open dumpsite.
Mamac on Monday accompanied Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan during an inspection conducted at an old dumpsite along a creek at Sitio Hadrian that connects Barangays Balibago here and Duquit in nearby Mabalacat town.
The village chair showed Pamintuan the development at the sitio, including the removal of the garbage along the creek and the establishment of a material recovery facility in the area.
He said the garbage problem is one of his priorities, saying he started cleaning Sitio Hadrian since he assumed office two years ago.
One of the measures the barangay instituted is the regulation of garbage collectors.
Mamac also said that he designated at least two garbage collectors for every area, while every household pays garbage collectors P50 to 80 every month. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
