Porac councilors want district hospital renamed

PORAC – The Municipal Council is urging the Pampanga Provincial Board to rename the Porac District Hospital here as “Jose Lapid Songco District Hospital” in honor of the late father of Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid.
This came as the city councilors led by Vice Mayor Dexter David met with the Provincial Board members in a committee hearing on Monday, concerning the recent municipal resolution passed by the councilors last January requesting the Provincial Board to consider renaming the district hospital.
David told Sun.Star Pampanga that the move is in honor of the older Lapid, who was responsible for rearing a generation of Lapids who are active in local politics.
However, Vice Governor Joseller “Yeng” Guiao told the councilors that they should present a more reasonable argument on why renaming the hospital is necessary.
Councilor Mike Tapang told Sun.Star Pampanga that the board members have given them one month to present their arguments in support of the renaming. David, for his part, said they have already instructed a team to process the research in support of the renaming.
Councilor Ludy Muli, meanwhile, told the provincial board that Senator Lapid has pledged P50 million for the development of the district hospital.
The Porac District Hospital serves residents of Pampanga’s second district and is one of the hospitals in Pampanga in need of more facilities and infrastructure development. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
