Laus heads Pinatubo memorial committee

February 11, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Laus Group of Companies president and chief executive officer Levy P. Laus was chosen to be the chairperson of this city’s Pinatubo Memorial Executive Committee (PMEC).
Laus was designated by Mayor Oscar Rodriguez through Executive Order 7.
The creation of the PMEC seeks to commemorate the Mount Pinatubo eruption on June 15, 1991 which had left ill effects in Pampanga.

Activities to be created by the PMEC will be the city’s contribution to the Provincial Government’s commemoration events on the 20th year of the Pinatubo eruption.
“The Pinatubo experience forms part of the collective memory and heritage of the Fernandinos and Kapampangans, so we deem it appropriate to organize a committee to plan and implement the city’s involvement in this commemorative event,” Rodriguez said in his order.
Rodriguez also said that Laus’s appointment to be PMEC chairperson is a manifestation of the public-private partnership, which is one of President Benigno Aquino III’s core projects.
Aside from organizing city wide activities, PMEC is also tasked to involve different sectors of the city, especially the youth, to participate in the commemorative activities and coordinate with the Provincial Government to ensure the orderly and appropriate observance of the Pinatubo anniversary.
Moreover, PMEC is expected to request President Aquino to declare June 15 as Pinatubo Memorial Day for all Kapampangans.
Other members of the committee are Pampanga Chamber of Commerce president Marco Antonio Jimenez; Save San Fernando Movement representatives Engineer Mariano Castro, Antonio Koh, Edgardo Chua, Reverend Father Resty Lumalanlan, Wilfredo Rivera and Ely Manaloto; CLTV 36’s Sonia Soto; city administrator Ferdinand Caylao and Rodriguez’s chief of staff Rowena Siron-Freeman.
Rodriguez is the honorary chairperson of the PMEC. (Charlene Cayabyab)
