Lawmaker, vice mayor inaugurate P5.5-M covered court
March 29, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. and this city’s Vice Mayor Edwin Santiago led the inauguration of the P5.5-million Barangay Malino covered court here last Sunday.
Gonzales and Santiago formally opened the facility, which can now be used by the public for social gatherings and special events.
The facility is located along a donated land by Hausland Development Corporation (HDLC).
Gonzales agreed to finance the construction of the said covered court after HDLC, headed by Willie Tan, agreed to donate the land for the use of local residents.
Gonzales said the new facility features a performance stage, comfort rooms, basketball courts and dressing rooms, as well as concrete bleachers for spectators.
“This will greatly help in improving the social life and activity of people here. The local officials can now host sporting activities and gatherings at the comfort of a good venue,” Gonzales said, urging local residents to look into the maintenance and upkeep of the covered court.
Vice Mayor Santiago, for his part, said the City Government welcomes the new facility and is thankful for developments for the benefit of local residents.
He also thanked Gonzales for his continuous programs on impact infrastructure projects in the district, particularly in the City of San Fernando.
“We thank Congressman Gonzales for his unending support for the construction of covered courts and barangay halls here. The residents of these communities who have benefited from his projects will forever be grateful,” Santiago said.
Santiago, in a talk with Gonzales, also expressed optimism on the latter’s plan to create an interconnecting road in Barangays Malino and Pulung Bulu. The plan is expected to facilitate better travel time between the two villages and bring in renewed commercial activity.
Gonzales said his team of engineers and planners are looking into the plan in coordination with local barangay officials.
