Pampanga lad tops PMA Class of 2011

FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City — A young and dynamic lad from Apalit, Pampanga is this year’s valedictorian of the Lakas Tipon Alagad ng Bayan (Laon Alab) Class of 2011 of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) when 196 members of the graduating class troop the line during their commencement exercises on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Borromeo grounds here.
Cadet First Class Angelo Edward Buan Paras will be receiving the Presidential Saber from no less than President Aquino as well as 14 other awards that include the JUSMAG Award for being the top graduate of the Philippine Navy; Australian Defense Best Overall Performance Award – No. 1 in Navy Core Courses; Philippine Navy Saber; Department of Tactical Officers Plaque; Academic Group/Award; Humanities Plaque; Mathematics Plaque; Natural Sciences Plaque; Social Sciences Plaque; Computing and Information Sciences Plaque and Management Plaque.
Cadet First Class John Rigor C. Guiang of Pinian, Zamboanga del Norte will be receiving the Vice Presidential Saber for being the class salutatorian and other awards such as the Chief of Staff Saber, JUSMAG Saber – Philippine Army; Philippine Army Saber and Australia Defense Best Overall Performance Award – No. 1 in Army Service Core Courses.
Cadet First Class Jayson Cortez Luna of Enrile Cagayan will be the recipient of the Secretary of National Defense Saber after landing third overall in their class; Cadet First Class Aljay Cabriga Dino of Naic, Cavite is the fourth overall and will be receiving the Association of Generals and Flag Officers (AGFO) Award, Department of Leadership Plaque and Navy Professional Courses Plaque. Placing fifth is Cadet First Class Rigor Narag Pamittan of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
The only female cadet in the top 10 is Cadet First Class Janice Banaga Matbagan of Sagada, Mountain Province. She will be the recipient of the coveted Athletic Saber; JUSMAG Award – Top Graduate of the Philippine Air Force; Australian Defense Best overall Performance Award for Philippine Air Force and the Philippine Air Force Saber.
