Guv to give support for Kampangan artists

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda on Tuesday told members of the Artist Association of the Philippines (AAP) Pampanga and Angeles City chapters that the Provincial Government will extend help on programs that promotes Kapampangan art.
Pineda, who was guest speaker during the opening of the AAP exhibit at SM City Pampanga, said the Provincial Government is always ready to help in the promotion of Kapampangan art and extend assistance to projects of the AAP.
“We are ready to extend support for seminars and training of young Kapampangans who would like to learn the arts through the mentoring of AAP artists,” Pineda said, stressing that she is open to dialogue with the AAP on other possible areas of cooperation.
Pineda said Kapampangan art is distinct in the sense that it is more socially rooted on community and communal art. She added her administration is not just concerned with economic development but is also aware of the need to preserve local contemporary culture.
The AAP members expressed their gratitude to the Provincial Government’s commitment. AAP member and local artist Andy Ramos said they see a better future in their advocacy of promoting Kapampangan art.
Ramos, a visual artist, said Pineda is one of the few governors in the region that have shown personal delight in patronizing artworks made by local artists.
Pineda is a known patron of Kapampangan artists and maintains a strong collection of artworks from Francisco Maniago and Perfecto Mercado among others. Ramos said their organization has been advocating for grassroots activities like seminars, painting exhibitions and the likes.
Gov. Pineda said she expects to coordinate with the AAP chapters in the coming weeks on the planned programs.
