AC 4-Wheelers conquer Ford Off-Road Challenge

February 7, 2011

BACOLOR — The Angeles City Four Wheelers trio led by trucker and quarryman Manman Bengco conquered the tough Ford Off-Road Challenge at Gugu Creek in this town on Saturday.
Bengco, along with seasoned team mates Tonton Dizon and Jec Sazon, aboard their three custom-built off-road vehicles, breezed through the finish line almost at sundown, after navigating the grueling 3.2-kilometer dirt and obstacle track after the flag up mid-morning.
The AC Four Wheelers was the only team to make it to the finish line. According to Pampanga Off-Roaders Inc. (Porci) president John Sambo, of the 90 racers from all over the country, only four teams remained in contention to the last leg of the race.

In an interview, Bengco told Sun.Star Pampanga that this year’s off-road challenge was the biggest and toughest he and his team faced so far.
“The track was very tough. Ang hirap. Lalo na iyong mud pit,” he said, as he took the championship trophy and P50,000 cash prize home.
Porci co-founder Rene Romero, however, made it to the finish line a little under time limit. Other racers and their vehicles were struggling to get out of the “pit” at dusk.
This year’s off-road challenge, a part of the City of San Fernando’s Kaganapan 2011 or 10th cityhood celebrations, was hosted by Porci and co-sponsored by mayors Oscar Rodriguez, Katoy Naguit, TJ Rodriguez and Jomar Hizon; Laus Group of Companies; Romac Group of Companies; Sambo Construction; Pampanga’s Best; Caltex Philippines; Land Rover; Maxxis; Casa Enzo; Inbox; Jun Garbes; and Bong Lacap.
