‘Ambo’ continues to move away from country

MANILA (5th Update, 11:03 p.m.) — Typhoon Ambo has maintained its strength as it continues to move away from the country, the state weather bureau said in its 11 p.m. bulletin.
At 10 p.m. Sunday, “Ambo” was spotted at 430 kilometers (km) east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of 150 kph.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said “Ambo” is forecast to move north northeast at 13 kph.
But while it is moving away from the country, Pagasa said, another low pressure area was spotted at 980 km east of southern Mindanao.
In the meantime, Pagasa warned fishermen against venturing out into the sea due to bad weather. It said “Ambo,” although moving away from the country, will continue to bring rains as it is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon.
Estimated rainfall amount is from 20 to 30 millimeter per hour within the 400-kilometer diameter of the typhoon.
“Ambo” is expected to be at 530 km northeast of Basco, Batanes by Monday evening and at 800 km northeast of Basco, Batanes by Tuesday evening.
As of 7 p.m. Sunday, the National Risk Reduction and Management Council reported the first typhoon to hit the country this year has left two people dead, seven missing and seven others injured.
Office of Civil Defense administrator Benito Ramos said two children drowned in a swollen river in western Palawan province, which was not directly hit by the typhoon but was lashed by heavy rains, while five of the seven missing were fishermen.
Pagasa advised the public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned to take appropriate actions and watch for the next weather bulletin to be issued at 5 a.m. Monday
