Aquino: National Kidney Awareness Month (Iwas Sakit sa Bato)

BUKOD sa taunang “Dengue Awareness Month,” hindi alam ng marami na ipinagdiriwang din ngayong buwan ng Hunyo ang “National Kidney Awareness Month”. Ito ay upang mapalawak ang ating kaalaman at kamalayan sa pangangalaga sa ating mga bato para maiwasan ang magastos na pagpapagamot kapag ang mga ito ay napinsala.
Bilang pampito sa mga pangunahing sanhi ng kamatayan ngayon ng mga Pilipino, mahalagang pagtuunan ito ng pansin hindi lamang ng ating pamahalaan kundi ng bawat mamamayan. Nais kong ipabatid sa lahat na ang diabetes, pamamaga ng bato at mataas na presyon ng dugo ang mga pangunahing dahilan ng kidney failure sa ating bansa. Kahalagahan ng bato. Isang mahalagang bahagi ng ating katawan ang ating mga bato. Sinasala nito ang ating dugo para maihiwalay at mailabas ang toxins o lason sa ating katawan na nanggagaling sa ating mga kinakain at iniinom. Isinasaayos din nito ang lebel ng tubig at electrolytes ng ating katawan. Ito rin ang pinagmumulan ng erythropoietin, ang hormone sa ating katawan na tumutulong sa bone marrow upang makagawa ng red blood cells.
Panganib ng sakit sa bato. Ang sakit sa bato ay mapanganib kung hindi ito matutuklasan ng maaga at mabigyan ng kaukulang lunas. Traydor ang sakit na ito dahil kadalasan ay wala itong palatandaan lalo pa kung nagsisimula pa lamang. Sa katunayan, madalas natutuklasan ang sakit na ito kapag malala na ito.
Ayon sa National Kidney and Transplant Institute, sa bawa’t isang milyong Pinoy ay 120 ang sinasabing nasa end stage renal disease o ESRD. Kapag ang pasyente ay idineklara nang end stage, nangangahulugan na hindi na gumagana ang dalawa niyang bato. Hindi na nito kayang linisin ang dumi sa dugo kaya nalalason na ang katawan niya, dahilan upang kailanganin na ng pasyente na sumailalim sa dialysis o kidney transplant. Prevention is better than cure. Makatutulong ang pagkakaroon ng healthy lifestyle para mapangalagaan at maiwasan ang pagkakaroon ng sakit sa bato gaya ng balance diet, regular na pag-eehersisyo, pananatili ng tamang timbang, at pag-iwas sa paninigarilyo. Ang pag-inom ng anim hanggang walong basong tubig araw-araw at ang pag-iwas sa maaalat na pagkain ay makatutulong din. Regular ding magpatingin sa duktor lalo na kung hypertensive, may diabetes at renal failure sa pamilya.
Gamutan sa bato. Sakaling magkaroon ng sakit sa bato lalo na ang ESRD, may dalawang options ang pasyente: mag-dialysis o kidney transplantation. Nagkakahalaga ng P2,500 hanggang P5,000 ang kada sesyon ng dialysis at tatlong sesyon kada linggo ang kinakailangang isagawa para mabuhay.
Subalit tinatayang 15 porsiyento lamang ng kidney function ang nagagarantiyahan ng dialysis at kinakailangan itong gawin nang regular at panghabambuhay upang manatiling buhay ang pasyente. Ayon pa sa NKTI, kalahati ng mga pasyenteng nagda-dialysis ay nangamamatay sa loob ng isang taong gamutan dahil hindi tuloy-tuloy ang pagda-dialysis dahil sa kakapusan sa pantustos.
Organ transplantation pa rin ang pinakamainam na alternatibo. Dito ay pinapalitan ng malusog na bato sa pamamagitan ng operasyon ang batong nasira na. Ayon sa mga pag-aaral, ilang buwan lamang pagkaraan ng operasyon ay lumalakas na ang pasyente at maaari nang bumalik sa kanyang trabaho. Mas cost-effective pa ito sa pagda-dialysis na bukod sa panghabambuhay ay wala pang katiyakan.
Lamang ay hindi lahat ng may ESRD ay maaaring sumailalim sa kidney transplant. Mga 40% nito ay hindi qualified kaya’t sila ay habambuhay nang magpapa-dialysis. Sa mga qualified naman sa operasyon ay tinatayang P500,000 hanggang P1 milyon ang kinakailangang pantustos.
Paano makakatulong ang PhilHealth? Bukod sa napakagastos, nagdudulot pa ito ng emotional at psychological stress sa pasyente at sa kaniyang pamilya. Mabuti na lamang at may maaari tayong sandalan sa magastos na pagpapagamot sa sakit sa bato.
Kung sa isang tertiary hospital magpapa-dialysis, ang benepisyo ay hanggang P28,000 para sa mga gamot at P21,000 sa laboratory sa loob ng 90 araw o single period of confinement. Ito ay bukod pa sa P 1,200 para sa operating room sa bawat sesyon.
Sa organ transplantation naman ay binabayaran ng PhilHealth ang confinement ng recipient at ng donor. Hanggang P28,000 ang subsidy sa mga gamot, P21,000 sa laboratory at P800 sa room at board kada araw kapag ang transplantation ay ginawa sa tertiary hospital.
Sa operating room naman ay hanggang P3,600 ang allowance para sa donor nephrectomy (pagtanggal ng malusog na bato sa donor) at P3,000 naman sa recipient nephrectomy, P6,000 naman sa renal allotransplantation (transplantation ng bato sa pasyenteng may ESRD) at P9,600 naman sa renal allotransplantation na may kasamang recipient nephrectomy.
