California: Diageo gives up two of its Napa Valley wineries (June 30, 2010)

Realty Income Corp., a real estate group based in Escondido in California, has signed an agreement with the Diageo group for the purchase of 800 ha of vines in the Napa Valley as well as the 37 000 m2 of buildings (cellars, retail, visitor centre…) of two wineries up to now owned by Diageo: Sterling Vineyards and Beaulieu Vineyards. These wineries have been producing for 25 to 100 years, the grapes go into making several of the group’s wine brands. The cost of the purchase is 269 million dollars (220 million euros). According to the terms of the agreement, Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines will continue to manage and operate the wineries and will retain the ownership and marketing of its wine brands. “This deal is not going to affect jobs”, announced a spokesperson for the group, adding that the decision was part of the company’s review of operations, launched in May. Acacia and Provenance, two other Californian wineries owned by Diageo, are not affected by the sale.

Getting to the Clark Wine Center wine shop from Manila is quite simple: after entering Clark Freeport from Dau and Angeles City, proceed straight along the main highway M A Roxas. Clark Wine Center is the stand-along white building on the right, at the corner A Bonifacio Ave. From the Clark International Airport DMIA, ask the taxi to drive towards the entrance of Clark going to Angeles City. From Mimosa, just proceed towards the exit of Clark and this wine shop is on the opposite side of the main road M A Roxas.
