Cities’ league wants amendments on local government code
December 06, 2010
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) president Oscar Rodriguez said on Sunday that city mayors are eyeing possible amendments on the local government code to facilitate better service to their respective constituents.
Rodriguez said LCP members, in their recent three-day conference, have raised the issue of the possibility of returning the health services to the National Government, and local housing program and the pre-audit system to local government units.
Dialogues with agencies concerned have been scheduled, Rodriguez said, adding that the LCP has also started lobbying for the necessary bills.
Rodriguez said that the amendments would further improve the delivery of basic services among member cities.
The LCP president also added that a team has been put together to look into the problems plaguing the local housing sector.
He said that though the housing sector has so much potential, there are also problems that hinder local housing programs.
Rodriguez added that the team will look into ways on how to better work with the National Government in solving issues raised by the LCP. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
