City health office aims 95% measles-immune kids

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The city health office in this city aims to give anti-measles shots to around 95 percent of Fernandino children by the end of the month.
Dr. Renely Tungol, city Ligtas Tigdas manager, said their program “Outreach Community Advocate Nurses Assigned in Rural Service” (OCA-Nars) aims to immunize all children ages nine months to below eight years old against measles, and give booster doses to those who have already received measles immunization to reduce the pool of those susceptible to the disease.
The vaccination of anti-measles shots to children is also part of the City Government’s efforts to mitigate cases of measles.
The program is in line with the nationwide campaign of the Department of Health dubbed as “Ligtas Tigdas ang Pinas”, which kicked-off in 1998 and continuously implemented every four years.
The vaccination team, which is composed of health workers, including nurses under the Oca-Nars and some volunteers, will conduct extensive house-to-house immunization against measles in the city’s 35 barangays. Dosages of vitamin A will also be given free.
“After this program, we are aiming to immunize 95 percent of our Fernandino children,” Tungol said.
She noted that Central Luzon has the second largest population in the whole country, therefore everyone must avail the free vaccination.
If in case the child is not at home during the visit, the team will come back some other day to make sure that every Fernandino child is vaccinated.
Healthcare is one of the priority programs of the City Government under its eight-point agenda that includes “Beinte Kwatro Oras, sa Sakit Walang Atras”.
