City inks pact with film council
March 11, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The City Government of San Fernando signed Monday a memorandum of agreement with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
The signing was made for the conduct of a film festival from May 26 to 28 this year, in celebration of “Sineng Pambansa” (National Cinema).
FDCP chairman Briccio Santos said that Pampanga, particularly the City of San Fernando, was chosen because it is known to be a creative and vibrant city.
“It is very vibrant and there are a lot of talents here and educational institutions. All the ingredients for a film festival can be installed here. It is also near other provinces and Manila as well having celebrated film makers like Brillante Mendoza and other budding artists. We really would like to tap the geographic potential of the place,” Santos said.
He said the film festival will be a yearly festival where short and foreign films will be shown.
“This will also send a strong signal to tourists who will certainly flock to the city to watch the films, which are mostly award winning. The city will be an excellent venue for these showings,” he added.
Santos said that during the three-day film festival, free symposia and workshops will be conducted by the group in various schools in the city.
“This is all for free. Government is bringing everything, including the tickets. So we invite everyone to the film fest dahil dito ay dala natin ang ating kultura at heritage,” Santos quipped.
Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, meanwhile, said the city will extend full support to the film festival and its proponents.
“We are very proud to have been chosen for the film festival. We would fully support this endeavor since we have a lot of talented Fernandinos and Kapampangans as well the proper venues like our Ninoy Aquino Amphitheater at Heroes Hall,” Rodriguez said. (Jovi T. De Leon)
