Councilor to environment bureau: Where’s the report?

ANGELES CITY – Councilor Edu Pamintuan on Thursday expressed disappointment over the failure of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) to submit a report about the violations of the hog and poultry farms in Barangay Cutcut here.

Pamintuan said he had written EMB Regional Director Lormelyn Claudio last December 3 and asked her about the respective notices of violation for Kennon Hog Farm and Paradise Poultry Farm owned by outgoing Association of Barangay Captains president Robin Nepomuceno.

He added that he has yet to get a response, considering “these reports should have been done a long time ago.”

Pamintuan added that with modern technology, the EMB could have e-mail or faxed their report to him.

In his letter to Claudio, Pamintuan sought “advice … whether both hog and poultry operators have complied with your requirements to correct their respective violation within the non-extendible period set in your notices and likewise attended the technical conference they were required to attend. Your response to our query will serve as my committee’s determination of appropriate sanction we can employ on the issue.”

Councilor Jay Sangil, for his part, said he doesn’t have to be an environmentalist to see that the animal farms have violated sanitation standards.

He said he will recommend the farms’ closure based on the violations reported by the EMB.

The Pinoy Gumising Ka Movement (PGKM), in a statement, alleged that people in public office “do not serve their purpose but otherwise.” The PGKM was apparently referring to the Nepomucenos, who also own the Golden Acres farm in Cutcut.

Robin Nepomuceno had earlier inhibited himself from the committee investigation led by Pamintuan.

PGKM’s Sonny Dobles corrected the reports that Nepomuceno had voluntarily inhibited himself from the council’s investigation. He said that he had complained to Pamintuan that Nepomuceno should not have attended the hearing as member of the council body considering his family owns the poultries. (Ria de Fiesta)
