Dolcetto d’Asti wine region
Philippines wine supplier Manila wine shop discusses wine by the grape variety Dolcetto.
Date: October 11, 2010
Dolcetto d’Asti is one of several Dolcetto DOCs produced in Piedmont in northwestern Italy. It was granted its status in 1974 and its 568 acres (230 hectares) of vineyards are found in the Langhe hills in the Monferrato area, southeast of Asti. Part of this classified zone overlaps with some of the Moscato d’Asti DOCG.
The wine is made from pure Dolcetto and tends to be lighter in style than the Dolcetto d’Alba wine. For the added designation of superiore, this red must be aged for a minimum of twelve months and reach a potential alcohol of 12.5%.
