Guv: Let’s discover more Kapampangan artists

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda vowed to support the Kapampangan artists, saying it is time that the Provincial Government discover and harness their talents.
Pineda admitted during the recent painting exhibit of the Artists Association of the Philippines-Angeles City and Pampanga Chapters that she is a patron of the arts, particularly works of Kapampangan craftsmen.
“I was invited one time to a painting exhibit at Gateway Mall in Quezon City. Iyun pong mga paintings ay worth P1 million to P2 million. I said to myself, isasabit ko lang naman sa wall ng bahay ko iyan. Pero honestly po, hindi ko iyun kaya. Ipantututlong ko na lang sa mahihirap nating kababayan. I prefer itong works ng ating mga kabalen na pareho din at world-class pa,” Pineda told Sun.Star Pampanga.
Pineda also said she was moved by the performance of Kapampangan saxophonist Prof. Noel Lopez, who drove the lady governor to tears in an encore rendition of “Somewhere”, reportedly her late sister’s favorite.
“So you see? Ang dami pala nating artists na dapat tulungan at i-develop. The Provincial Government will allot funds especially for aspiring artists and out of school youth this summer in support of the AAP workshop,” she said.
Among the paintings Pineda took home with her were Nick Cunan’s “Mag-Ina”, a depiction of an Aeta mother and child, and Rem Prin’s “Brooks in Gabaldon” focusing on the environment.
The proceeds of the AAP painting exhibit will go to its various environmental projects.
