Lawmaker: No plans for 2013

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Former three-term City of San Fernando mayor and third District Representative Dr. Reynaldo Aquino said he has no plans to return to the political arena come 2013.
Aquino, now the president and chief executive officer of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), told Sun.Star Pampanga during a recent interview that he “would rather continue serving Filipinos in his or any capacity that comes along the way.”
“I have been there and I have proven my worth in the political arena. As of now, I would rather serve Filipinos and Kapampangans in any capacity that is given me. Politics in 2013 is out of my mind as of now,” he said revealed.
Aquino’s pronouncements come in the face of PhilHealth’s current success. Under Aquino’s leadership, a notable 86 percent of the agency’s goal of delivering and ensuring health for Filipinos has been achieved.
“The billions of coverage we have achieved cover various sectors, including employees, retirees and members of the Armed Forces. But the very heart of it is programs for indigents which we are currently working on,” he said.
The indigent program, he added, has reached 5.6 million individual beneficiaries based on last year’s records.
“We reach out to local government executives and other stakeholders,” he said, adding that this is why it’s necessary to heighten public awareness of health insurance, “as per the instruction of our good President [Benigno] Noynoy [Aquino] lalo pa nating padadamihin ang benefits para sa ating kababayan.”
Aquino said the agency will soon roll out the all-efficient “case payment,” where indigents would not have to pay anything upon admittance to government hospitals.
