Lawmaker to distribute pedicabs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. is set to distribute 15 new pedal-driven cabs (pedicabs) to residents of Northville 14, along with selected indigents in this capital city.
Gonzales told Sun.Star Pampanga that the new pedicabs were commissioned to serve as instant source of livelihood for the fortunate beneficiaries. The pedicabs cost some P15,000 each and were designed to withstand harsh weather.
“We found out that these pedicabs easily provide employment to our people. They can operate them with only diligence and handwork as their capital,” Gonzales said.
Gonzales added that the pedicabs are given for free with the agreement that the beneficiary would look into the maintenance and up-keep of the each.
In general, a pedicab ride would cost a minimum of P10 to P20 depending on the distance. Gonzales said a pedicab driver can earn some P400 to P600 if given enough passengers.
Gonzales had initially started the distribution of pedicabs in Sta. Ana town last year. The program later evolved into a livelihood initiative program, which aims to give indigents easy source of income while promoting the value of hard work.
“This teaches each beneficiary that they can earn a decent living through hard work,” Gonzales said, adding that the pedicabs are also provided with all-weather protective covers for the comfort of passengers.
The new pedicabs will be distributed anytime this week among pre-selected indigents.
