It is a recurring demand from wine consumers, whether they are concerned about their health and/or controls from the police if they’re driving : wines above 15° of alcohol are no longer popular. While vine-growing and winemaking methods allow producers to obtain wines with an alcohol content between 12.5 and 14°without further ado, some vintners try and cross an extra step to produce wines lighter in alcohol, around 10° and down to zero. Alcohol-free wines attract customers that are usually forbiden to drink wine, whether for medical or religious reasons. Three new products heading in that direction will be introduced to the public during the next edition of Vinisud, the fair of Mediterranean wines, to be held in Montpellier (Feb., 22nd-24th) :
- We’ve talked about the Rouge Sans Alcool and Blanc Sans Alcool from domaine la Colombette, already known for its 10,5 ° Cuvée Plume.
- The Anne de Joyeuse co-op from Limoux will introduce Social Club No. 10: a range of wines with naturally low contents of 10.5% vol) in PGI Oc red (Merlot / Syrah), PGI Oc white (Sauvignon / Chenin) and PGI Oc Rosé (Cinsault / Syrah).
- Les Domaines Auriol will present So’Light: a wine of 9 ° alcohol and 65 calories per glass, born in 2009 from a partnership with INRA. So’Light was first introduced to professionnals in VINEXPO 2009, then was subjected to customer feedback on various international wine markets, which helped validate the concept and improve the aromatic qualities of the product. Les Domaines Auriol will present the 2009 vintage on Vinisud for commercial launch.
UCCOAR will also be there, with 0% range, “Bonne Nouvelle”, now a classic wine, available in 3 families of products : the Classic (in 3 colors), Grapes (Syrah, Merlot, Chardonnay), and Fine bubbles (Classic, Chardonnay or Rose).
