‘Mina’ death toll now at 16

MANILA (3rd update, 2:29 p.m.) — The death toll from Typhoon Mina, which weakened into a tropical storm late Sunday, rose to 16 Monday.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), in its 1 p.m. Monday report, said additional four fatalities were recorded in Ilocos Region.
The fatalities include seven from Ilocos Region, Central Luzon (1), Bicol Region (1), Cordillera Administrative Region (6), and National Capital Region (1).
Eight other people were also recorded missing due to the weather disturbance.
The NDRRMC also said 56,167 families or 231,314 people were affected by “Mina”.
The initial cost of damages to infrastructure and agriculture amounted to P1,009,953,299.54: infrastructure (P23,200,000), agriculture (P986,753,299.54).
Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Monday said Tropical Storm Mina may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Monday night.

said weather in the storm-hit Luzon may improve by Wednesday or Thursday.
Pagasa, in its 11 a.m. Monday bulletin, said “Mina” has slightly weakened as it continues to move away from the country.
Pagasa said “Mina” was spotted at 320 kilometers north northwest of Basco, Batanes as of 10 a.m.
The storm packed maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 130 kph.
It is forecast to move northwest at 9 kph.
Storm signal number 1 remains at the Batanes Group of Islands.
Pagasa said it may lift the storm signal Monday night.
Residents in low lying and mountainous areas particularly over the western section of Northern and Central Luzon are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides, likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves generated by monsoon surge. (Sunnex)
