Motorists hit slow-moving Sta. Ana traffic

January 04, 2011

STA. ANA — Motorists traversing a portion of the national road in this town have blamed authorities who are in-charge of road management for the “daily” heavy traffic.

They pinpointed the corner along the public market in front of the Catholic Church here as the area with the heaviest traffic.

“Matagal na po namin gustong idaing ang problema sa mabigat na daloy ng trapiko dito sa kahabaan ng Sta. Ana mula barangay San Juan hanggang sa kabayanan mismo. Natatakot lamang po kami noong una baka mapag-initan lang kami, pero natatalo po kami sa kunsumo sa diesel dahil sa traffic,” Pepe Lacsina, a motorist, said.

The motorists disclosed that heavy traffic is usually experienced during rush hours in the morning and evening.

As this developed, the motorists are urging local authorities here to remove all road obstructions such as ambulant vendors and tricycle terminals established near the main road.

One of the motorists said political will is needed to address the problem. He urged the Municipal Government to establish a terminal that is far from the downtown area.

Aside from the motorists, owners of small businesses, including employees in neighboring establishments also aired their complaints.

Traders claimed that delivery of goods is slow with high fuel consumptions. Likewise, employees said travel time has doubled.

It was learned, however, that the Municipal Government has facilitated the construction of a public market extension to accommodate ambulant vendors contributing to the traffic problem. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
