No cult killings in Angeles: mayor

ANGELES CITY – Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan has denied spreading the news about the alleged “cult killings” in this city.
News about a satanic cult scouring the city – knocking on doors and apparently murdering innocent families – have placed fear upon the city residents these past few weeks. It recently spread like wildfire in text messages and social networking sites.
The alarming text messages allegedly came from Pamintuan himself, explaining in the content that families have to exercise caution when someone knocks on their doors as these may be the rumored cult which murdered a family in Barangay Pandan.
Pamintuan immediately denied sending out the said scary messages and branded the alleged cult killings as a hoax. He said his administration utilizes the correct channels for information distribution.
“I was besieged with frantic calls and text messages from anxious residents asking confirmation whether these reported killings by the cult group were true,” Pamintuan said.
Pamintuan said he is of the belief that this was orchestrated to create a negative impression that the police are inutile in doing their mandated tasks to protect and serve the people.
Senior Supt. Melchor Reyes, officer-in-charge of the Angeles City Police Office (ACPO), confirmed that there is no truth to such texts.
“Huwag po tayong mag-alala, wala po tayong kultong gumagala,” Reyes said.
He also said that they already investigated the case in Barangay Pandan and the incident does not exist.
Reyes also stressed that irresponsible text messaging is to be blamed for such occurrence. The texts daunted the citizens, particularly the youth, who widely use text messaging as a means of communication.
