Palace shrugs off ‘noynoying’

MALACAÑANG shrugged off Friday the “noynoying,” a new form of protest against President Benigno Aquino III’s administration.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the “noynoying” is part of democracy.
“They will always do what they wish. It’s a democracy,” she said when asked on the reported plan of the militant groups to disseminate to social media and the internet the latest attack against Aquino.

Protesters on the oil price hikes adopted the “noynoying,” an act that involves lying on the ground, looking bored and doing nothing during their protest action on Thursday.
“Noynoying” replaced “planking.” They accused Aquino of not doing anything to address the rising oil prices.

Valte said Malacañang would not do anything regarding the latest criticism against the President.

“It seems that whoever President you put, the same thing is done,” she said.

Valte also justified the latest photo of the President that came out in most of the newspapers showing that he was working hard in his office in Malacañang on Thursday after skipping a packed schedule on Wednesday as he was not feeling well.

She said the photo was not to debunk “noynoying” that the President was not doing anything.

“Certainly, it was not in response to any matter. If you — well, you would know this very well that the Photo Bureau does release photos of the President on a regular basis,” she said.

She added that the members of the press were asking on Thursday if Aquino went back to work after skipping his schedules on Wednesday.
