Prosecution, defense sort out list of Corona’s 45 properties

UPON the instruction of the impeachment court, the defense and prosecution panels have agreed to exclude several cancelled titles that were earlier included in the list of properties allegedly owned by Chief Justice Renato Corona and his family.
Land Registration Authority (LRA) Administrator Eulalio Diaz III earlier sent lead prosecutor Niel Tupas Jr. a letter listing down 45 properties that came up during a general name search made by the agency.
In Tuesday’s impeachment trial, Diaz got a dressing down from senator-judges for failing to verify the properties allegedly owned by the Corona family.
“You practically charged the Chief Justice and his wife of owning 45 properties. How come you did that? I’m talking about the fairness principle,” Senator Joker Arroyo scolded Diaz.
The prosecution was also scolded for misleading the public after it used the list from LRA to request a subpoena from the impeachment court.
Both prosecution and defense panels agreed to exclude 17 cancelled titles. These are:
1. N-85804 for the Marikina property (the mother titles of the subdivided seven parcels of land)
2. CCT 19497 registered under the name of Megaworld Corporation
3. CCT 19651, 4. CCT19652, 5. CCT 19653 all registered also to Megaworld Corporation
6. CCT 87877 under Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation
7. TCT 989-P/T-05-P for the McKinley property
8. TCT RT-777-2516799 registered under names of Vicente Roco Jr. married to Asuncion Basa (Cristina’s parents)
9. TCT 85121 for Ayala Heights property which has been sold to Rivera couple
10. TCT N-254901 for the La Vista property sold to Ma. Carla Castillo (Chief Justice’s daughter)
11. TCT N-154400 under the names of Angelina Castillo and Constantino Castillo
12. TCT RT-106747226256 registered under National Housing Authority
13. TCT N-11168 registered under Burgundy Realty Corporation
14. TCT 125683 under the Bahar couple
15. TCT RT-20758 under the name of Daniel Encina and wife
16. TCT RT-3190163659 registered to Eugenia Coronado
17. TCT 84241 registered under Ysmael Mathay Jr., et al.
The prosecution, however, made a reservation on TCT 85121 or the Ayala Heights property, which it said should have been declared in the statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) of the Chief Justice until 2009. The Ayala Heights property was sold to the Rivera couple on February 26, 2010.
Both panels also excluded 12 other land titles not under Corona’s name but the prosecution made a reservation on four, which they claim are still under the name of the Chief Justice’s children.
The prosecution is counting four properties in McKinley (sold to Charina Corona), La Vista (sold to Ma. Carla Castillo), and Cubao and Kalayaan (both sold to Constantino Castillo III) under the name of Chief Justice Corona.
Apart from the reservations made by the prosecution panel, the list provided by the LRA was trimmed down to 16 real estate properties.
