Refurbished Magalang hospital opens Monday

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Provincial Government said the newly rehabilitated Don Andres Luciano Memorial Hospital (DALMH) (formerly known as Balitucan District Hospital) in Magalang town will open to the public on Monday.
Governor Lilia Pineda said at least P35 million was spent for the construction of the new building. The budget was part of the some P700 million released by the Capitol in 2011 for various projects on health, education, livelihood and infrastructure, among others.
The 50-bed district hospital mostly serves residents from nearby Angeles City, Arayat and Mabalacat towns.
The newly completed building also houses the wards, emergency room, laboratory, pharmacy, dental offices, supply room, doctor’s quarters and staff offices.
Pineda said the upgrading and rehabilitation of several district hospitals in the province including the DALMH aims to provide efficient and effective health services for the underprivileged Kapampangans.
Earlier, the governor met with George Samson, president and CEO of the Detroit, Michigan-based World Medical Relief Inc. (WMRI), Representative Carmelo Lazatin (1st district, Pampanga) and Magalang Mayor Romy Pecson at the Clark Freeport to finalize plans for the opening of the hospital’s new building next week.
Pineda thanked Samson, a native of Barangay San Pedro II in Magalang, for the WMRI’s donation of beds and other hospital equipment.
Pineda said Department of Health also gave P5 million for the birthing station at the DALMH, which sits on a one-hectare area donated by Don Andres Luciano, grandfather of Clark International Airport Corp. president and CEO Victor Jose Luciano. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
