Satellite clinics mulled

December 6, 2010

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is set to open satellite clinics in the provinces in a bid to provide and bring more health services closer to the public, particularly the needy.

This move was announced by PCSO chairman Margarita Juico during her speech on Friday’s awarding ceremonies of social service partners of the Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) at the Heroes Hall here.

Juico said that the move is part of the move of the PCSO to reach out to indigents needing medical attention.

Civic-oriented organizations in Pampanga welcomed the news, adding that the presence of PCSO clinics in the provinces will add to the concerted effort of non-government groups to provide health services to indigents.

Rotary Club of Central Pampanga president Epifania Tobias told Sun.Star Pampanga that the PCSO will surely help more people with this plan. She said that lottery revenues finance most of the PCSO’s health service programs.

Juico, for his part, reiterated the PCSO’s mission in helping the public, stressing that the underserved and marginalized sector of the community benefit from the national lottery’s continued existence.

“We reach out to indigent, qualified hospital patients and extend them financial help. We fund humanitarian projects for the sick and those threatened by serious diseases,” Juico said, adding that the PCSO has a long history of partnership with local governments, helping boost public safety and public health facilities.

The PCSO is currently finalizing its plans for the establishment of the satellite clinics. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
