Traders laud officials for ‘setting good example’

CANDABA — Traders in this town lauded officials here “for setting a good example” by spearheading a clean-up drive at the Candaba Public Market’s wet section on Monday.
Imelda dela Peña, a market vendor, said they were surprised to see Mayor Jerry Pelayo personally supervising the cleaning activity.
“Nakakatuwa na makita mo si Mayor Pelayo na naka-shorts at nakayapak habang naglilinis sa palengke. Di tulad ng ibang opisyal na pasosyal at nandidiri pa sa dumi dito sa palengke. Siya mismo ang pumupulot ng basura at may hawak sa hose ng tubig,” she said.
Pelayo led the maintenance personnel of the public market during the clean-up drive to show the public that cleanliness in public places is a shared obligation.
“Kung siya ngang mayor na nagagawang maglinis sa palengke, kami pa kaya na dito nanggagaling ang aming ikinabubuhay?” Merlyn Manalastas, another vendor here, said.
Meanwhile, the market vendors reiterated their request to the Municipal Government to undertake major repairs in the town’s public market due to its dilapidated condition.
It was learned that this market was first constructed more than 20 years ago.
