Village chief denies discriminating against PWDs
November 30, 2010
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The chief of Barangay San Pablo in Mexico denied “discriminating and maligning” persons with disabilities (PWDs) when she allegedly uttered derogatory remarks during a forum.
Village chief Carnita Indos was recently charged before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office by Central Luzon Federation for Persons with Disability (CLFPWD) Public Relations Officer Maria Elena Gomez for “uttering discriminatory and defamatory words.
Gomez, a resident of the same village, said that Indos uttered: “Palibhasa president ng mga sira,” referring to the Pampanga Federation of the Association of the Persons with Disabilities Inc., where she was then president.
But Indos, in an interview with Sun.Star Pampanga on Monday, said the complaint lodged by Gomez against her was the same case filed before the Commission on Human Rights in 2009.
Showing pertinent documents, she said the case was “closed and terminated.”
In other documents she furnished Sun.Star Pampanga, she noted that the two witnesses — Josephine Caballa and Melencio Sambile — who allegedly heard her utter the defamatory statements have similarly denied Gomez’s accusations in two separate affidavits.
Both witnesses said: “There was no moment we heard Barangay captain Carnita Indos utter the remark ‘Palibhasa presidente ng mga sira.’”
Indos said Gomez’s actions were politically motivated.
She added that her detractors would do anything to discredit her. (Jovi T. De Leon)
