Village chief vows support to Lazatin

MABALACAT — A village chairman in this town has expressed support to Representative Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin (1st district, Pampanga) over the retention of this first-class municipality and nearby Magalang town as part of the province’s first district.
Bical village chief Rodelio “Jeng” Yumul, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay here, said, “We don’t want Congressman Lazatin to separate Mabalacat yet from the district as we push for more development in the town.”
The two towns and Angeles City are clustered under the first district.
Yumul issued the statements after Pampanga Vice Governor Joseller “Yeng” Guiao reportedly said Lazatin failed to separate the towns of Mabalacat and Magalang from Angeles City.
Guiao, who announced his intention to run for first district congressman in 2013, said the separation of Angeles City would give more funding to the two towns through the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
Yumul said Lazatin as congressman had prioritized Mabalacat and even Magalang unlike his predecessors.
“It’s not only words and promises but in deeds and official record that Tarzan cares for the whole district,” said Yumul.
He said Lazatin had recently funded the completion of a P30-million road project in Bical, which makes travelling to nearby Barangay San Jose in Magalang comfortable and easier.
“We will be more neglected if Lazatin is not our solon. We will support the separation if we feel and see there is a more reliable solon for our town,” said Yumul.
IC Calaguas, Lazatin’s chief of staff, said Mabalacat had P333,353,000 million worth of infrastructure and other projects from 2007 to 2010 during the first term of Lazatin.
Magalang got P253,409,657 million, while Angeles City had P 389,630,432 million.
Yumul said sometime in 2009, Lazatin filed a bill separating Mabalacat and Magalang from Angeles City.
But Yumul said he and the other 26 Mabalacat village chiefs opposed the bill, saying they still need the services of Lazatin.
Former Magalang Liga ng mga Barangay president Rodolfo Gonzales said he and other village chiefs also opposed the move to separate their town from the control of Lazatin.
He said Lazatin was “very much concerned with Magalang since he became our representative in Congress.”
Lazatin urged Guiao to “read newspapers and learn about the real score” before issuing statements on the separation of Mabalacat and Magalang from his district.
He added that the Congress would not entertain the bill on the creation of another district if barangay officials are opposed to the bill.
