Dairy farmers saw the total value of their milk decline nearly 10 percent to $85.2 million, according to the county crop report released last week. And apple farmers witnessed a decline in their crop’s value of nearly 29 percent to $5.4 million.

In contrast, poultry production grew 4 percent to nearly $46.6 million; vegetables gained nearly 16 percent to $11 million, and silage, oats and other field crops jumped 24 percent to $12.8 million.

Farm Bureu to induct Kunde into Hall of Fame

Windsor grape grower, philanthropist and county fair board director Saralee McClelland Kunde will be inducted into the Sonoma County Farm Bureau Hall of Fame July 18 at the group’s annual Love of the Land event.

Fittingly, the dinner and awards will be held at Richard’s Grove and Saralee’s Vineyard in Windsor, formerly owned by Kunde and her husband Richard, and now owned by Santa Rosa-based Jackson Family Wines.

At the 5 p.m. event, the farm bureau will honor the Lee and Carolyn Martinelli family of Forestville as Farm Family of the Year. Tish Ward, manager of the Atwood Ranch in Glen Ellen, will receive the Luther Burbank Conservation Award.

Tickets are $65. The deadline for reservations is July 5. Tickets are available online at sonomafb.org.
