Angeles to celebrate 181st Foundation Day

ANGELES CITY — The city is set to celebrate its 181st Foundation Day on December 8.

With the theme “Kuliat Ya Kanita, Angeles Ya Ngeni: Balikdan taya ing milabas, isulung taya ing bukas!” the whole day event opens at 8 a.m. with a tree planting activity at the Taug Dike.

This will be participated in by key officials of the Angeles City local government, led by Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.

A ceremonial planting of the kuliat vine will be held at the Museo Ning Angeles at 7 am. This will be participated in by newly-elected barangay captains.

The new village officials will also lead the ceremonial unveiling and ribbon cutting rites for the Museo Ning Angeles open house and exhibit of Angeles City’s 33 Barangays.

The City’s Public Employment Services Office (Peso) will also hold a job fair at the Angeles City Library.

In the afternoon, portions of Sto. Rosario and Miranda Streets will take people back to the 1820s, as kalesa’s and karwahe’s bearing Mutya Ning Angeles beauties garbed in their lavish Filipiniana attires will fill the streets.

The beauties, along with other Angeleños, will then proceed to the Holy Rosary Parish Church for the thanksgiving mass.

To cap the day, a cultural show featuring the best dancers, singers and musicians of Angeles City, will be staged at the Museo Ning Angeles. The musical extravaganza is directed by the multi-faceted authority in performing arts, Peter De Vera.

Angeles was formally recognized as an independent town in December 8, 1829. It was originally known as Barrio Culiat of what is now the City of San Fernando.

Angeles was named in honor of the titular patron, the Holy Guardian Angels, and is also a subtle tribute to the man who worked hard to establish and develop this new township, Don Angel Pantaleon de Miranda.

In January 1, 1964, Angeles was declared a chartered city under Republic Act 3700. It became host to the American colonizers in the 1900s and continued to host the biggest American military facility outside the mainland United States, Clark Air Base, until the early 1990s.

Despite being ravaged by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo and the departure of the American military forces from Clark Air Base, Angeles City and its people remained resilient and steadfast in their resolve to stand up and bring back the old glory days of the city.

Getting to the Clark Wine Center wine shop from Manila is quite simple:  after entering Clark Freeport from Dau and Angeles City, proceed straight along the main highway M A Roxas. Clark Wine Center is the stand-along white building on the right, at the corner A Bonifacio Ave.  From the Clark International Airport DMIA, ask the taxi to drive towards the entrance of Clark going to Angeles City.  From Mimosa, just proceed towards the exit of Clark and this wine shop is on the opposite side of the main road M A Roxas.
