Barangay leaders urged to maintain cleanliness
March 30, 2011
MABALACAT — Mayor Marino Morales has urged barangay leaders to maintain cleanliness in their respective villages.
Morales issued the statement during the launching of the town’s clean and green campaign last Monday at the municipal hall.
“I urge our barangay officials to play a leading role in ensuring that every family and every household within their jurisdictions keeps its surroundings clean,” Morales stated.
“Remember that you have taken an oath to promote the well-being of your constituents and the law vests you with the power and authority to do exactly that,” Morales told the village officials.
The mayor said he envies people who live in clean neighborhoods, work in neat spaces or play in well-maintained parks.
Generally, these people are happier and enjoy healthy life, said Morales.
“I think that a clean neighborhood makes one think good, feel good and look good,” Morales said.
Morales added that he wants to transform the town into one “where fishes would come alive in streams and the scent of the air is fresh as the morning mist.”
“I want us to clean and green every yard, every street and alley in our town. We can do it, if all of us would work together and put our hearts into it,” Morales said.
He said municipal officials have signed ordinances on cleanliness and orderliness.
“We have bought heavy equipment and rented trucks to remove trash. Yet there is still garbage lying around. I pointed out before that every household must do its share,” he said.
According to the mayor, the municipal solid waste management office was already directed to provide appropriate guidance, support and solutions to barangay officials in terms of cleanliness and beautification of their communities.
Morales said he is planning to give incentives to barangays, which could show dramatic improvement in their respective villages.
“Jinky Santos, whom I am now designating as head of the Waste Management Office, is hereby instructed to study deeply the proposal of granting monetary incentives to barangays which could turn their communities into model areas of cleanliness and orderliness,” Morales said.
