Chardonnay wine costs more than it earns (Jan 04, 2010)

Clark Wine Center is pleased to relay interesting news and articles about wine to you on this web site.  We hope that this will enhance your wine shopping experience when you visit this wine shop in Pampanga Clark Freeport Zone.

Talks between wine growers and wineries on the price of grapes from the 2010 harvest begins these days in Australia. The group Foster’s has announced its objectives to wine producers in the regions of Riverland and Mildura, two wine regions, which alone represent half of the country’s wine production. The group will pay this year’s Australian Chardonnay at $ 150 per tonne (93.5 € / T), a lower production cost, estimated between 230 and $ 300 per ton (143 to 187 €). In the glorious hours of Australian wines in the 90’s, the price of Australian Chardonnay had risen to $ 900 (€ 561 per tonne).

Foster’s has justified the reduction by the erosion of its export wine sales due to a strong Australian dollar. This erosion is also being subsequent to the disgrace in which Chardonnay fell, consumers preferring cooler wines like Sauvignon blanc from New Zealand. Sales of Australian Chardonnay wine began to decline in 2004, they fell 25% in 5 years.

To minimize the impact of the difficulties of his wine industry on the activities of the group, Foster’s has restructured the wine business in February, streamlining its portfolio of wines, snatching 300 ha and yielding 16 of its wineries. His vineyard has been reduced from 11 000 to 700 ha.
