Chile’s wine regions, Concha Y Toro

July 29, 2011

With vineyards and wineries in all of the best wine regions in both Chile and Argentina, Viña Concha y Toro has complete control over vineyard and winemaking quality. Each wine has its own dedicated winemaking team.

Viña Concha y Toro owns around 8,800 hectares of vineyards in some of the best locations in Chile and Argentina. This enormous investment in vineyard ownership gives Viña Concha y Toro complete control over wine quality from planting of varieties in various locations throughout Chile and Argentina, to harvesting, cellaring and bottling.
A long history of winemaking

Viña Concha y Toro was established in 1883 by Don Melchor de Concha y Toro. A successful businessman, he regularly travelled to Europe. From there, he took vine cuttings from vineyards in Bordeaux and brought them back to his estate in the Maipo Valley, where he planted them. The rest, as they say, is history.
Family values

In 1952, Don Eduardo Guilisasti joined the Board of Directors and later became the General Manager. He recognised Chile’s potential to produce world-class wines and his vision lead him to invest in vineyards and wineries as well as attracting some of the most talented winemakers in the country to work with him. Today, his son Eduardo Guilisasti is at the helm of the company and Concha y Toro is still a family owned business.
