City hospital gets P.7M in donations
January 04, 2011
ANGELES CITY — The Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC) recently received P700,000 worth of monetary donations from two Kapampangan groups.
RLMMC, formerly Ospital Ning Angeles, received P400,000 from the Aguman Kapampangan based in London and another P300,000 from the Tigtigan Terakan keng Dalan (TTKD) 2010 Committee last week.
Sally Montemayor, a representative from the Aguman Kapampangan-United Kingdom, handed the P400,000 check donation to Dr. Antonio Dizon, director of the RLMMC.
The Kapampangan organization raised the funds during a charitable dinner and dance party held at the London Ibis Hotel on November 27 where Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan was their guest of honor and speaker.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mario Muñoz and Herminia Pamintuan, Mayor Pamintuan’s wife and member of the TTKD committee, presented another check worth P300,000 to RLMMC. The donation came from the proceeds of TTKD 2010.
Dizon and Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting received the donations.
Dizon said the donations will help fund the construction of a dialysis center within the RLMMC and the renovation of the existing emergency room, out-patient department and intensive care unit of the city hospital.
“This is just keeping with Mayor Pamintuan’s program of providing better health and medical services to Angeleños,” Dizon said.
Last month, an international medical assistance organization turned over the documents of the first shipment of medical equipment to the City Government.
George Samson, chief executive director of the World Medical Relief Inc. (WMRI), personally handed to Pamintuan the list of medical equipment due to arrive at the Manila South Harbor on January 5.
The first batch of medical equipment worth P14 million includes nine dialysis machines, an X-ray machine, a cardiac monitoring machine and ultrasound machine.
The shipment also includes dialysis chairs, hospital beds, walkers, crutches and medical supplies such as gauze sponges and under pads among others.
“Angeles is the first city to have 15 dialysis machines and it is also the first city to have a dialysis center,” Samson said.
Samson, a Kapampangan, said a second shipment of medical equipment is due to arrive in February or March 2011.
Included in Pamintuan’s eight point agenda is the upgrading of RLMMC’s hospital equipment.
“Later on, we will put up a new hospital to house all of these equipments. Right now we are focusing on building a dialysis center located at the back of the city hospital,” Pamintuan said.
The completion of the dialysis center, Pamintuan said, will help poor and even well-off Angeleños who are suffering from kidney or renal failure on their dialysis treatment expenses.
He said a patient undergoing a dialysis treatment spends around P5,000 to P7,500 per week and another P2,800 for the dialysis filter.
“We’re studying how we can better help patients by cutting the prices of treatment. If the patient is even certified as an indigent, we’ll work on giving the treatment for free,” Pamintuan said.
