Coloma, Soliman leads ‘Akbay Kapwa 2012’ pro-poor event rites
QUEZON CITY, May 14 (PIA) — Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman will lead the distribution of basic services for the urban poor during the “Rights Holders Congress” and “Akbay Kapwa 2012” on Tuesday, May 15 at the Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay City staring at 8:00 a.m.
The event is in celebration of the United Nations (UN) International Day of the Family on the same day.
Coloma, who is also the guest of honor, will deliver a short message while Soliman is the keynote speaker. Pasay City Mayor Antonio Calixto will do the welcome message.
They will also oversee the distribution of basic services to 3,000 beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) who will reunite in the event which has the theme “Pamilyang Pilipino: Sama sa Pagsulong ng Bayan.”
To express their gratitude and share their success stories are Josephine Manuel of Barangay 178, Pasay City; Analiza Cancan of Barangay Tuktukan, Taguig City; and Angie Kaloon of Barangay Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. They will give their insight on family development, education, and health.
The 4Ps beneficiaries will avail of the information services, values formation , health services, employment and livelihood services, technology transfer, and public assistance.
The event is in collaboration with the Association of Regional Executives of Metro Manila (AREMM), Rotary International, the local government of Pasay City, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
In cooperation with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Health (DoH), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Armed Forces of the Philippines-National Capital Region Command (AFP-NCRCOM), National Alleviation of Poverty Commission (NAPC), Department of Agriculture (DA), Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), Social Security System (SSS), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Tourism, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Presidential Commission on Urban Poor (PCUP) National Nutrition Council, and Archdiocese of Manila.
Organizers led by Philippine Information Agency-National Capital Region (PIA-NCR) director Riza Jose-Baldoria said the reunion is aimed to bring the government closer to the people, establish a two-way channel of communication between the government and the people through interpersonal and face-to-face communication, and increase the level of awareness of the target publics of the different services offered by government agencies in the region and how they can avail themselves of these services.
Baldoria, who is a past president and adviser of AREMM, said the project involves the integrated delivery of government information and the dispensation of direct social services in identified beneficiaries of the government’s 4Ps in Metro Manila.
Highlight of the day-long event is the mobilization of concerned national government agencies (NGAs) in Metro Manila, LGU-partner Rotary District 3780 involved in the dispensation of information, and direct social services to the target publics.
