Coordination among authorities needed
December 2, 2010
ANGELES CITY — Coordination between the city police and officials from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and villages is important whenever an incident occurs in the city.
This was the statement of Acting Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting during an emergency meeting with fellow officials at the Angeles City Hall on Tuesday.
Cabigting said the coordination among officials will beef up their responsiveness to emergency situations, threats of terrorism and crisis management.
“We should have a coordinated action plan whenever an emergency situation occurs. Like the fire in Villa Angela last month, that is not just the responsibility of the BFP. Village officials are the first persons to respond to such situation,” Cabigting said.
Among the authorities present during the meeting where Police City Director Danilo Bautista, BFP fire marshall Jimmy Suba, and village chiefs Rodelio Mamac (Balibago), Arturo Candelaria (Cuayan), Marino Bituin (San Nicholas), and Joseph Dimapilis (Pulung Maragul).
Cabigting told the village chiefs to make their own emergency plans.
She also encouraged hotel owners across the city to install security cameras and metal detectors to avoid entry of firearms.
Retired General Orlando Macaspac, a native Angeleno, was tapped by the City Government to be the city consultant on security and peace and order.
Macaspac said a unified emergency plan among city authorities will prevent the Ozone Disco incident in Manila to happen in the city.
The Ozone Disco was gutted by fire in 1995 where hundreds of people died.
