Donor org exec confirms additional equipment for city hospital

ANGELES CITY – An official from a non-government donor organization in the United States has confirmed the shipment next month of various medical equipment intended for use at the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC), formerly Ospital ning Angeles, in this city.
George Samson, chief executive officer of the US-based World Medical Relief Inc. (WMRI), told City Government workers during his visit Monday at the Angeles City Hall that the container van having the additional hospital equipment and supplies will arrive in the Philippines in January.
“Dr. David Lee Zarate, our coordinator in Mindanao will get the shipment and will facilitate the immediate transport of the 40-foot container van here in Angeles City,” Samson said.
Samson said the new set of donations will include ultrasound and electrocardiogram (ECG) machines, hospital beds, wheelchairs, dental chairs, emergency carts, laboratory instruments and other medical supplies.
“We are convinced that Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan is doing an incredible job in fulfilling his health programs for his constituents and this is the reason why WMRI continues to prioritize Angeles City among its recipients,” Samson said.
Pamintuan, for his part, thanked Samson and expressed that the Angeleños will forever be grateful to WMRI for the charitable efforts being extended to the city.
He said the firm’s support is something that the City Government values greatly.
“The pieces of equipment are being used to their full extent and we hope that we do justice to the donation given to us by the group,” Pamintuan said, stressing that the equipment have greatly augmented the already large resources being allocated for health services here.
With its headquarters in Detroit, Michigan, WMRI was established in 1953. Over the years, the organization has expanded its mission by providing medical aid to thousands of underserved people in the Detroit metropolitan area and in over 100 developing nations worldwide.
The Philippines has been one of the main recipient countries and has received shipments valued over $200 million in hospital equipment and medical supplies.
Angeles City has already received numerous medical equipment from WMRI. The donations were made during Pamintuan’s first term as mayor from 1992 to 1995.
Most of the medical equipment is still being used today at the RLMMC.
This year, the first batch of medical equipment donated by WMRI that was turned over to the RLMMC include a C-arm X-ray machine, a cardiac monitoring machine, an ultrasound machine, reverse-osmosis machine for dialysis system, defibrillator and a phaco-machine.
The WMRI has also donated 15 dialysis machines to the city which eventually led to the establishment of the Renal Care Unit (RCU) within the RLMMC.
The RCU serves around 350 patients a month undergoing dialysis treatment and many of whom are indigents.
Samson was accompanied by Honorable Mike Baydoun, Consul General of the Republic of Liberia, who is also the treasurer of WMRI, and Dr. David Lee Zarate, Dr. Eileen Theresa Cainglet, Rene De Mesa and Rudy Mallari, all coordinators of WMRI here in the Philippines.
