Duman Fest to feature jobs fair, medical mission

December 3, 2010

STA. RITA — The Municipal Government here and the ArtiSta Rita Foundation Inc. have partnered for this year’s Duman Festival celebration.

On December 4 a series of cultural and social service activities for local residents and tourists alike are lined up.

Mayor Yolanda Pineda told Sun.Star that the Saturday event will feature a two part affair with the Duman Festival activities slated in the afternoon. The morning activities include a feeding program, free massage, and jobs fair among others.

Pineda said the Municipal Government would like to make the event more responsive to all sectors of the community. The medical mission component will also feature free dental services and vaccinations for senior citizens.

“The jobs fair will include local employment for companies like Cyber City Teleservices, New Ris Marketing, House of David Group of Companies, Marquee Mall, Robinson’s Retail Group, SM Supermarket and SM City Department Store,” Pineda said.

Meanwhile, the Duman Festival opening is slated at 3 p.m. with some 50 stalls of native local delicacies opening for business at about the same time.

The festival started in 2002 and originated from the long standing tradition of pounding and winnowing unripe glutinous rice (lacatan) and turned into a light pale gold or green delicacy called “duman.”

Yuletide delicacies and the throng of the many sweet-tooth attractions of this town are expected to be sold during the event. Sta. Rita is a pastry town with famous products like duman, sansrival, turrones de casuy and mammon tostado.

The event will be capped with a Duman Show to be performed by ArtiSta. Rita.
