Economist to address PamCham’s 35th membership meeting

March 18, 2011

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Writer, thinker and economist Dr. Bernardo Villegas will be the guest of honor and speaker of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham) on March 31 at Holiday Inn Clark.
PamCham president Jim Jimenez told Sun.Star Pampanga that Villegas will be imparting an “Economic Briefing” to further stress the state of the national economy and its effects to the local industry.
According to Jimenez, Villegas, economic adviser for at least 40 years to the country’s various presidents, will surely be a good source of inputs on new members of the PamCham on how they can chart their business plans and anticipate possible advantages.
“We are urging all members of PamCham to attend the membership meeting and take advantage of the talk of Villegas,” Jimenez said.
Villegas, one of the 1972 TOYM Awardees for Economics, is the senior vice president of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P). He has a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University (18963) and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), having been one of the CPA board topnotchers in 1958.
He obtained Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce and the Humanities (both Summa Cum Laude) from De La Salle University, where he established a record by obtaining straight A’s in the Liacom course, a five-year program he finished in four years.
At Harvard, he was one of the youngest — at the age of 21 — ever to be a teaching fellow in the College of Arts and Sciences. His special fields of study are development economics, social economics, business economics and strategic management. He has also authored several economic textbooks.
After the talk of Villegas, PamCham will also be inducting its new members.
