Eye center for indigent patients to open soon

BACOLOR – The World Medical Relief Inc. (WMRI) and the Jesus Datu Medical Center (JADMC) will soon open an eye center here to provide indigents and non-government groups better access to eye health services.

Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) trustee Sylvia Ordonez said the new facility will become a component of the JADMC.

Ordonez said the facility, set to open anytime this week, will pave the way for more health missions for indigents here.

“The WMRI will be donating all the needed equipment for the eye center,” Ordonez said.

The facility is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Jesus A. Datu, who devoted a great part of his life to organizing medical missions for indigent Kapampangans and donating a part of his resources for the construction of a medical hospital, Ordonez said.

Datu died of pancreatic cancer in 2008. His family later visited their roots here and constructed the JADMC in a 1,750-square-meter land using the life savings of their patriarch.

It was Datu’s dying wish that a hospital dedicated to the poor be constructed in this town.

Currently, the hospital is being managed by the Love for Life Foundation, the Datu Angeles David Memorial (DADMF) Foundation, JADMC, and the KDF. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
