Guv: ‘Change us if we’re not effective’
effective.”
This was the stunning statement of Governor Lilia Pineda over the weekend, as she told parents of honor students, public high school graduates, school principals and officials at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center not to re-elect them for ineffectivity.
The governor led board members from all districts in distributing financial assistance, some P20,000 each, to valedictorians, salutatorians and first honorable mention graduates from the province’s 105 national and public high schools.
Pineda, the first woman to be elected governor of Pampanga, told hundreds of attendees of the forum, not to vote for her or the board members again if they find her administration ineffective.
“Nung akakit yu pung e kami effective, palitan yu ku at eyu na la bubotu reng keka yung board members (If you find us ineffective, change me and don’t vote for your board members any more),” she stressed.
The governor also posed the challenge to Provincial Board members for them to work harder for their constituents, particularly in the effective implementation of Capitol’s priority health and education programs.
“There is a lot of work at the Capitol at papag-obran yo pu reng keka yung board members,” she added.
In attendance during the rites were Board Members Dein Henson, Trina Dizon and education committee chair Rolly Macalino from the third district; Fritzie David-Dizon from the second district; Cris Garbo and Tars Halili from the first district; and Ric Yabut and Nestor Tolentino from the fourth district.
The board members were at first surprised by Pineda’s statements, but later said they were up to the challenge of the governor.
“It is a reminder to board members and for us to work even harder. Pahiwatig iyun ng governor for all to work. Hindi lamang dapat siya kung hindi lahat ng board members at provincial officials,” Yabut, in reaction, quipped.
For his part, Tolentino said: “Natawa nga ako but the governor’s call is true. That is how you can establish close and good working relationships with all sectors since we are all advocates of good governance.”
In return, emotional parents and students expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Pineda and the board members for their support.
